The High school of Business and Finance “Vasil Levski”, Montana is the first business and first secondary vocational school in North-Eastern Bulgaria.

It was established in 1921, and classes commenced with 26 students taught by teachers with European higher education. The learning course was 2 years. After renaming it to Practical Business School in 1924, the education duration became three years.

Over its 90-year history, the school has undergone ups and downs. Periods of validation and fight for prestige followed efforts to survive.

Following the democratic changes, the school was one of the five pilot schools in Bulgaria to implement and multiply modern European business education. In the 1995/1996 school year, pursuant to a decision of the MES, the business high school was approved for work under a Bulgarian-Austrian education project. The first class in Economics and Management was admitted.

Upon graduation, students obtain a Certificate from the Austrian Ministry of Education that certifies the Bulgarian diplomas as equal to Austrian ones, and is valid within the European Union. Learning follows a special modular curriculum. The textbooks on “Enterprise economics”, “Business informatics”, “Business German” are adapted by Bulgarian scientific teams where teachers in the respective subjects at the high school are involved.

Nowadays HSBF “Vasil Levski” is a modern school with 585 students in 24 classes and 11 majors, working on international education projects and preparing young people to meet all requirements that modern managers should have: good computer literacy, foreign language competence, business qualities, communication skills and business culture.

It is a school that meets the new century’s challenges of building professional competencies and key qualifications applicable on the labour market in Bulgaria and Europe.
